Urban Dance classes (Breakdance, House and Hip Hop) are the main focus at Studio Sweatshop. Owner and Montreal Bgirl JoDee 'Feisty' Allen co-founded the studio with Helen 'Cheeco' Simard in 2004 in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal. The Sweatshop is well known for a friendly, non-competitive environment in which people feel encouraged to learn about these different dance forms as a vehicle for personal achievement. Studio Sweatshop is a community dance resource center that provides dancers with information about community events, shows, and auditions as well as reduced rates on studio rental. JoDee hosts informal dance showings at the studio, where emerging and established choreographers present works-in-progress and choreographic experiments in an intimate setting. She has also organized Bboy/Bgirl battles to raise money and awareness for various charitable causes.

Studio Sweatshop is the home base for Solid State Breakdance, JoDee and Helen's professional dance company. Some of Solid State's past performances include shows at the Saidye Bronfman Center, La Tohu, Espace Tangente, Toronto's Harbourfront Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Les Francofolies, several Fringe festivals, and countless elementary and high schools.
